You can't go wrong by booking one of the many hotels and resorts  located along the beautiful sandy beaches along of the Gulf of Mexico stretching from Clearwater Beach to St Pete Beach.   But you don’t have to select a hotel on the beach when visiting the area as there are many other choices ranging from historic gems tucked away in downtown enclaves to romantic, unique and boutique options throughout different neighborhoods. Business travelers will appreciate some of the downtown St Petersburg options, while families will enjoy a wide range of choices, suitable for all budgets.

Hot Tips: If you're on a budget, hotel costs are significantly higher during the high season, January through May. Visit in June, September or October if you want to get a bargain.

When night falls, St Petersburg and Clearwater come to life, offering a totally different vibe, sure to appeal to the hardiest “party animal.” Funky nightclubs, romantic rooftop lounges, seaside bistros and swanky clubs spring into action, assuring patrons non-stop activity into the wee hours. Depending what you’re in the mood for, you’ll find plenty of options  in this area with choices ranging from laid-back beach bars, sophisticated restaurants, roof-top bistros and high-energy clubs. Signature cocktails, craft beers and tasty bar bites, highlighted by live music provide the perfect touches to the party atmosphere.

Take It or Leave It: Be prepared to dress for the occasion and leave your beach duds behind. Many bars and nightclubs - especially downtown - expect you to dress to impress.

Caution: Downtown clubs tend to get very busy so try to get there early - especially if you want a table.

Where to Shop

Plenty of “shop till you drop” opportunities can be found in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area. If you like indoor mall shopping — especially popular during the intense heat of summer - you won’t have to go far to indulge in a very satisfying shopping spree. If chic boutiques are more to your liking, you won’t be disappointed as they’re scattered throughout the area. Souvenir shopping of course, offers a wide range of popular options, especially along the beach. Flea markets, like Wagon Wheel are always a lot of fun because they’re usually bursting with treasures — old and new.
