You'd think that year-round bikini weather and more than 1,300+ miles of coastline would keep Floridians from cramming their faces full of doughnuts, but much to the delight of weight loss programs everywhere, that's simply not the case.
Whether you're in the market for a classic glazed yeast or artisanal hipster offerings covered in candied bacon or Fruity Pebbles, the state Homer Simpson once referred to as "America's wang" is rife with delights that would be right up his alley.
Here are 10 doughnut purveyors worth budgeting in the calories for:
The Dandee Donut Factory | Deerfield Beach
1422 S Federal Hwy., Deerfield Beach, FL 33441
Can't choose between sweet or savory? The Dandee Donut Factory says you don't have to — Photo courtesy of The Dandee Donut Factory
This diner-style restaurant is renowned for its large, fresh doughnuts and myriad traditional varieties, but they've got a few interesting creatives to explore, as well. Plus you can pop in 24/7 to sample. Win-win!
Made-to-order breakfast all day (get your eggs on a doughnut) is extra appealing when you can leave with a box of doughnuts for the road. There are also lunch and dinner offerings if you want to craft your own Luther Burger.
This place has been around since the '80s; they know their stuff – and have locations in Hollywood and Pompano Beach, to boot. Try the house-named Dandee, a classic cake-crumb-glaze combo that hits the doughnut bullseye.
Donnie's Donuts | Ormond Beach
200 E Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL 32176

Mere minutes from the glittering Atlantic waves of Ormond Beach, Donnie's previous location in Daytona closed permanently after Hurricane Matthew, but locals are happy to make the quick drive to its hip, new digs to get a fix.
Donnie's base is a classic cake style, but creative and generous toppings make mixing it up easy. Vintage doughnuts are simple cake or sugar-dusted (the newest seasonal is a classic apple cider variety!) but flavors like lemon raspberry, French toast, strawberry shortcake, chocolate peanut butter and more will please those with a jones for extra sweetness.
The Donut King | Winter Park
3706 Howell Branch Ct., Winter Park, FL 32792
Hail to the King, baby — Orlando locals love the Donut King — Photo courtesy of Donut King of Winter Park
The Donut King's outpost in Minneola, a town on the western side of Orlando, was a favorite for so long (it's open 24/7 and boasts a drive-thru) that they opened another in the more central burg of Winter Park - with predictably phenomenal results.
Weekend mornings bring lines, but they are fast-moving. Affable staffers pack boxes with all manner of cake and yeast classics and candy-coated varietals heavily loaded with things like chocolate chips or crushed Butterfinger or Heath bars.

Glazed Donuts | Key West
420 Eaton St., Key West, FL 33040
Southernmost sweets? The pineapple brulee at Glazed Donuts in Key West — Photo courtesy of Glazed Donuts
This southernmost doughnut hut has a sinfully superb traditional glazed, but this is Key West after all, so you'll probably want to sample their sublime key lime and its wonderfully singed meringue topping. Or, if citrus isn't your bag of doughnuts, perhaps you'll like a Cuban coffee cream (with a cup of its namesake to match!).
Here you'll find plenty of familiar flavors, but we figure you should eat tropical: pineapple brulee, mango with decorative sprinkles or guava jelly-filled are just a few of this phenomenal shop's fruity offerings.
Good Dough | Jacksonville
1636 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32207
Most doughnuts at Good Dough in Jacksonville run between $2.50 and $3.00 — Photo courtesy of Good Dough
Many of the shops listed herein are small-batch and from-scratch; Jacksonville's Good Dough is no exception and also serves locally roasted coffee. What better beverage to pair with seasonal flavors such as blackberry sage, butterscotch bacon and pumpkin cheesecake filled?
In the mood for savory? Skip the heavy sugar and opt for a cakey take on a Southern fave with a fried chicken doughwich; don't skip the pickles, either!
Jupiter Donut Company | Palm Harbor
32130 US Hwy 19 N, Palm Harbor, FL 34684

There are many classifications at this shop, tucked into a strip mall on a busy section of U.S. 19: cake, simple, filled, fancy, extra fancy and specialty. These range from $1.25 for something like a classic powdered to $4 for a bacon maple well-studded with a crunchy-salty complement to its sugary glaze.
You'll want to come early to sample exciting monthly special flavors, most recently bananas foster and peanut butter & jelly, because these tend to run out quickly. A drive-thru window makes it easy to take a box of sugary treats to pair with the sugary sand of nearby Clearwater Beach.
Mini Doughnut Factory | Tampa
2109 S Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa, FL 33629
Shake it up: At Tampa's Mini Doughnut Factory they'll blend two minis into homemade ice cream and top it with another doughnut — Photo courtesy of Mini Doughnut Factory
Tampa's Mini Doughnut Factory is ideal if you're looking to lull yourself into a false sense of dietary security. The cakes here are petite but all that means is that you're likely to eat more of them – or you can drink them. Their Doughnut Shakes ($5.75) offer guests the option of choosing two doughnuts to blend into house made ice cream, while a third one adorns the straw. Decadent.
If flavors like espresso chip or campfire don't suit, customize your confection by choosing your cake, icing, topping and drizzle.

Orlandough | Orlando
Can often be found at 1600 Edgewater Dr., Orlando, FL 32804
Savory offerings are gaining popularity. For example, the buffalo chicken doughnut from Orlandough — Photo courtesy of Orlandough
You won't find them on a truck or a storefront, but this Orlando-local baker brings her delicious and wonderfully varied wares to local markets and pop-ups all over town and does private orders for office parties, birthdays, weddings, etc. Doughnut & beer pairings are a regular thing at Orlando Brewing and the College Park Farmer's Market is among her regular stops.
What's more, Orlandough mixes it up - brioche, old fashioned, vegan, gluten-free, etc. - and so pop-up events may bring the perfect opportunity for plant-based and wheat-free sampling. Tantalizing flavors such as s'mores, Golden Oreo glazed, coconut cinnamon sugar twists, pistachio and raspberry rose will satisfy the fancies among the group, but you'll never go wrong with a classic, simple glazed.
Follow Orlandough on Facebook or Instagram to find out where these goodies will be next!
The Salty Donut | Miami
50 NW 23rd St. #112, Miami, FL 33127

Enthusiasts will find gorgeous, artsy doughnuts in a gorgeous, artsy setting at this Miami favorite, where everything, including the glazes and fillings, are made in-house. Get local with your choices and try a Tres Leches or the guava-cheese brioche, an artisan-doughtnut take on the classic Cuban pastelito.
And if you make it there this fall, don't miss the pear cobbler brioche, either. Roasted pears, pear butter and creme fraiche? That's some serious seasonal NOM right there. Instagrammable and insanely good, there's a reason lines often wrap around the storefront – and no one complains.
Valkyrie Doughnuts | Orlando
12226 Corporate Blvd., Orlando, FL 32817

Vegan vikings, behold! Your sweet tooth's Valhalla lies just steps from the UCF campus and its name is Valkyrie. This bright and airy shop is all vegan, but non-vegans won't balk a bit at these massive, fluffy squares of doughy goodness that go for $3 a pop.
Cookies and cream, chocolate sprankle, Fruity Pebbles-coated and the wonderfully cinnamon-sugary perfection that is Churro are among the options. Lots of fun seasonals await, along with dairy-free ice cream you can enjoy a la carte or amid the vegan-but-not-diet joys of a doughnut sundae or sammie.
Grab some doughnut holes (they're called "nugs") for the road.
