Denver's shopping opps are reflective of its culture: chic, artsy, contemporary, funky, often upscale, and with a serious nod to the rugged Western heritage from which the city was born. There are mega malls, to be sure. But aficionados will want to venture outside those traditional boxes to poke around boutiques and independently owned shops and galleries. Denver has two defined art districts: the longstanding Art District on Santa Fe, south of downtown, and the emerging River North area, or RiNo Art District, to the north. From funky spaces and working studios to established galleries, to say nothing of the superb shops at Denver Art Museum, the Mile High City offers inspiration to those who appreciate art in all its forms. There are also three distinct clusters of stores conveniently grouped for one-stop shopping: historic Larimer Square, upscale Cherry Creek North and the fabulously renovated and revived Denver Union Station. Of course, there are also stand-alones, places such as Twist and Shout where both old and new vinyl records are sold, and 5 Green Boxes with its visually arresting array of goods. Best of all, across all neighborhoods and genres are goods made only in Colorado.
