Pho Viet ia a rare Vietnamese restaurant that can produce a good Pho - and a chef that cares about your opinion of her specialty. This is to be expected from the previous owners of a fish restaurant in Hanoi. The warm and fuzzy Gay Village restaurant all done up in shades of blue and gold does a good ginger chicken, carmelized salmon and pho noodles which can be served with peanut chicken. A good option for sharing includes the Vietnamese fondue. The lively crowd appreciates this tiny, unpretentious place that offers a bring your own wine or beer option near the Palais de Congres.
Recommended for Asian because: Pho Viet is a strong contender for the best Vietnamese restaurant in Montreal.
Sherel's expert tip: This restaurant gets quite busy at lunch-time. Get here early!
A Japanese pub, as the name suggests, Isakaya offers a simple but warm and cozy decor and, unlike a lot of Montreal eateries, it's quiet and serene. The regular diners include stay at home moms, students and professionals. The excellent sushi choices include sweet raw shrimp and the Sushimi - an 18 piece sushi and sashimi combo. Popular Japanese tapas feature fresh oysters, eggplant, grilled squid, a spinach and mushroom salad, burdock root and popcorn shrimp. The best rolls are the kamikaze and bonzai ones. Other favorites include her curry shrimp and vegetables, red curry duck, panang curry with sticky rice, chili basil tofu and satay dumpings. Mouthwatering dosas, made from lentil flour and stuffed with spicy potatoes, the crispiest this side of the world, are just one of the features of Bombay Choupati's predominantly South Indian menu. You'll also find samosas and pakoras, idli smothered in spicy sambal, and creamy rich butter chicken. Definitely off the beaten Montreal paths though, as it can be found on the west island, but certainly worth seeking out for lovers of all south Indian cuisine. Don't let the neighborhood or the physical appearance of the venue deter you from enjoying some seriously good Indian cuisine. Make sure to start with some Bombay bhel.
Recommended for Asian because: A suburban favorite, Bombay Choupati is adored for its tender and creamy butter chicken.
Sherel's expert tip: Don't let the neighborhood or the physical appearance of the venue deter you from some good Indian cuisine.
Sustainable seafood, five-dollar starters and an extensive tartar menu all served in a romantic setting - what's not to like about Kyomi? Especially since "Sweet Tuesdays" feature chocolate fondue - something rarely experienced in an Asian fusion eatery and Sunday specials include a $15 menu. The spacious layout in this warm but modern interior can accommodate large groups too. The time-honoured, bring your own wine tradition, so popular in Montreal is an option here too. While it's hard to go wrong with any of their dishes, the lobster rolls, calamari and the sunrise salad all served by helpful and friendly waiters are especially popular.
Recommended for Asian because: Kyomi offers great weekly specials like $1.00 oysters on Thursday evenings.
Sherel's expert tip: Bring your own wine!
Toyo is quite possibly the closest thing to the Benihana experience one can find in Montreal with entertaining chefs - particularly with large groups. Toyo Restaurants specialize in Teppanyaki cuisine, a traditional Japanese cooking style performed on large iron griddles called teppan. Their downtown location also serves fresh and mouth-watering sushi. The large portions of traditional Asian grill and tasty saki keep regulars and visitors alike satisfied. Special occasions are given extra consideration by the skilled chefs so Toyo is a good destination for groups celebrating those events. The Toyo experience is also recommended as a good bonding activity for employees too.
Recommended for Asian because: Toyo offers a fun evening out with entertaining chefs, good, fresh food and large portions.
Sherel's expert tip: Best for groups as singles and couples may be seated at communal tables.

Named for Thailand's major river and a 2014 Diner's Choice award winner, Chao Praya has been open since 1988. The helpful staff are very good at deciphering the huge menu to insure you get exactly what you like. In order to try as many of the tempting dishes as possible, come with several people. The roast duck with spinach, soy sauce and peanuts and the shrimp with hot chili and sweet basil are particularly good but so is the chicken and vegetable curry, ditto the pad thai. Unlike other Asian restaurants, this one focus on one cuisine, that of Thailand.
Recommended for Asian because: The award-winning Chao Praya has been a Montreal favorite since 1988.
Sherel's expert tip: It's best to eat with several people to try more dishes from this extensive menu.
