Cowboys, dusty trails and saloons may be hard to find in Scottsdale and Phoenix these days, but head just a bit further north and you'll find the spirit of the Old West alive and kicking in Cave Creek. This small desert town offers great shopping, dining and gorgeous desert scenery in spades.
Eat
Binkley's in Cave Creek consistently ranks at the top of the list of Arizona's best restaurants. Chef-owner Kevin Binkley has created an elegant foray into the modern American kitchen, blending the best of traditional American and Continental traditions with today's emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The restaurants unique a la carte tasting menu makes it easy to discover new flavors and share. Cinnamon roasted figs, wild mushroom soup and five spice seared duck breast are just some of the creations that have made on appearance on the always-changing menu.
Party
Good times at the Buffalo Chip Saloon include live music, dancing, and yes, bull riding. This Western saloon is hopping on Saturday nights (and just about every other night of the week), with the thump of country western music streaming out the door. If you've ever wanted to learn how to two-step, or simply watch as experienced Western dancers nimbly twirl their partner around the dance floor, a night at the Buffalo Chip Saloon in Cave Creek is in store.
Shop
Every first Saturday of the month, Cave Creek residents and visitors gather for a shopping extravaganza known as the Thieves Market. This flea market and auto grotto is the perfect place to discover a new treasure from a bygone area. Over 2,000 savvy shoppers wander the aisles of vintage good, old-fashion Western wear, and any number of collectibles. Whether you're looking for a retro bicycle, antique tool set, or string of pearls, there's a good chance you'll find it here, or at least have fun trying.
