Best National Park Lodge (2024)
National park lodges offer travelers the opportunity to enjoy overnight stays in the midst of some of America’s most beautiful scenery.
There are fewer than 100 national park lodges, and an expert panel selected their top picks, each one offering stunning "parkitecture" — we're talking design that blurs the line between structures and their natural surroundings, from huge stone fireplaces to majestic wooden pillars. Then, readers voted for their favorites to determine the winners.

Historic Glacier Park Lodge was constructed in 1913 by the Great Northern Railway and continues as a stop for Amtrak’s Empire Builder. The lodge offers more than 150 guest rooms and is comprised of two large buildings connected by an enclosed walkway. The glory of the lodge is the massive three-story lobby with huge fir and cedar pillars. It's located just outside the park boundary but is quite closely associated with Glacier National Park.

Opened in 1927, The Inn at Death Valley invites travelers to enter a world shared by some of Hollywood's most iconic stars. Like them, you can enjoy the spring-fed swimming pool, a walk through the date palm gardens, or just escape to the privacy of your guest room.

Built in 1927, The Ahwahnee features a granite stone and wood facade that perfectly complements its natural surroundings in Yosemite National Park. With giant stone fireplaces, hand-stenciled beams, rich tapestries, and sparkling stained glass, the hotel's interior is as striking as the exterior.

No. 6:
One of two remaining park lodges operating on the 469-mile-long Blue Ridge Parkway, Pisgah Inn offers guest rooms that provide outstanding views of Pisgah National Forest and distant mountains. The inn is at a 5,000-foot elevation, resulting in cool summer evenings that allow guests to sit on their balconies and enjoy the view. The inn is notable for the excellent meals served in its dining room.

Completed in 1905, the El Tovar is the South Rim’s most elegant lodging facility. The hotel has 78 guest rooms that differ by size, shape, and views. The hotel’s ground floor contains a lounge and a beautiful dining room, while a mezzanine offers a quiet place to read or visit. Walk out the hotel’s door and view the splendor of the Grand Canyon, America’s most magnificent natural wonder.

Skyland is the largest of Shenandoah National Park’s three separate lodging facilities. The resort is a wide-ranging complex of one- and two-story structures that include lodge buildings, motel-type buildings, and cabins, and many of the guest rooms offer great views of beautiful Shenandoah Valley. The dining room features a wall of windows that provide outstanding views.

Old Faithful Inn opened in 1904, and wings that now contain most of the guest rooms were added in 1919 and 1927. The inn’s centerpiece is its huge lobby, with long beams and a vaulted ceiling that soars 76 feet above the first floor. Multiple overhanging balconies add to the effect. Rooms range from classic accommodations in the historic Old House to more upscale lodging in each of the wings.

Paradise Inn provides guests spectacular views of majestic Mount Rainier, with 121 guest rooms, most of which are in a connected annex building constructed in the 1920s. The lodge also boasts a huge lobby flanked on the ends by large stone fireplaces. It's truly a place to disconnect with the modern world and reconnect with nature, as rooms lack internet, telephones, and television.

Jackson Lake Lodge offers nearly 400 guest rooms, some with excellent views of the Tetons, one of America’s most scenic mountain ranges. A limited number of guest rooms are on the third floor of the main lodge, but most are in numerous multiple-unit cottages that flank the lodge. The huge lobby with enormous windows offers guests a picture-perfect view of the surroundings.
