JOO PEDRO PITOMBO
FROM SALVADOR

With his naked body tied to a lamppost, a man was beaten and kicked to death on the outskirts of So Lus (capital of the state of Maranho, in the northeast of Brazil) on Monday, July 6th.

According to the Civil Police of Maranho, Cledenilson Pereira Silva, 29, was rendered by residents of Jardim So Cristvo after announcing a robbery at a bar.

After being detained, the suspect was tied, stripped naked and lynched. He did not survive the injuries and died at the crime scene.

A 16-year-old boy suspected of participating in the same robbery also had his hands bound and was placed lying face down on the ground before being attacked by locals.

However, he was saved by the police who detained him and sent him to youth detention center. A.38-caliber revolver was seized with the boy.

The crime occurred at around 12pm, a busy time for the streets of the neighborhood, and brought together dozens of onlookers who crowded around the bound men.

At the site, broken bottles and stones shells that were used in the attacks were found.

Cledenilson's body was removed and sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine. After the body was examined, it was released for burial.

The case is under investigation by the Homicide Division of Maranho.
