It took Juventus a while to formalize the acquisition of Michele Di Gregorio from Monza after a swift move to reach an agreement on his valuation, and Liverpool tried to take advantage of the situation, but he had already committed to transferring to Turin.

His agent Carlo Alberto Bettoni revealed the tidbit to TuttoSport.

“Director Cristiano Giuntoli strongly wanted him. He said multiple times that he resembles Angelo Peruzzi in his opinion. He reiterated that winning teams are built on strong goalies, so he wanted the best one in Serie A.”

Liverpool went after Di Gregorio, but Di Gregorio held up his end of the bargain since the move had been in the works for a long time.

“The Reds showed major interest. However, I wish to point out that he didn’t say no to them, but rather he kept his word with the Bianconeri. We had shaken hands with Giuntoli a few months back. History says that they are the top club for a goalkeeper.”

Juventus staved off Liverpool and ended up signing Di Gregorio for an advantageous formula since it’s a loan with an obligation to buy for a total of €20M including add-ons. Instead, there has been no progress concerning the sale of Wojciech Szczesny despite Poland’s early elimination from Euro 2024. Al-Nassr seems to be moving on as they are going after Liverpool’s Ederson. Instead, Monza CEO Adriano Galliani downplayed their interest (via Mediaset).

“We’d have to come to an understanding about what a negotiation is first. If we go by its definition, there isn’t one for now. Then you can have a chat with a director or the other. These things are inchoate.”
