The Warriors' youth movement is in full swing

For the best part of the last decade, the Golden State Warriors have dominated the NBA. The trio of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green led the franchise to four championship rings while playing a brand of basketball that altered how NBA games were played.

That star trio has begun to lose its potency. Curry is 36-years-old, Thompson has endured two significant knee injuries and Green has dealt with behavioral issues on the court.

Fortunately for Golden State, the front office has slowly been building a core of young talent that now appears ready to step into the limelight.

Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis are the future of the Warriors franchise. In the coming years, their roles within the rotation will grow exponentially as the veteran core becomes part of the supporting cast.

As such, it makes sense that Golden State's front office reportedly refuses to entertain potential trades to add veteran talent around Curry and Co.

"Getting a veteran impact player almost certainly would require moving Jonathan Kuminga, who projects to have the highest upside of Golden State’s under-25 players," Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area reported. "The Warriors have exhibited no desire to part with Kuminga, and their same intent has been applied to Moses Moody, Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis.”

Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. has a difficult decision to make. If the front office chooses to keep all the young talent at its disposal, it must find a way to open up playing time for them.

Moody, in particular, has struggled for consistent game time since entering the NBA. Furthermore, Thompson's future must be sorted out. If the Warriors are leaning into a youth movement, let him walk in free agency and find a team that can give him a legitimate role.

In recent years, the Warriors have been criticized for straddling two timelines. Now, it appears that their decision is starting to pay dividends. However, the supporting cast must be re-tooled so that the young contingent can take the next step.

It's going to be a busy summer in the Bay Area. However, if the front office plays things right, this could be the summer when the next wave of star talent blossoms and a new contention timeline emerges.
