Spurs Trading Devonte’ Graham To Hornets, Who Intend To Waive Him

Graham, 29, is 6-foot-1 and will become an unrestricted free agent after being waived.

He appeared in 23 games with the Spurs last season, averaging 5.0 points, 1.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists, shooting 35.2% from the field and 30.3% on 3-pointers.

His NBA career actually began in Charlotte in 2018, spending his first three seasons with the Hornets. He then spent one year with the New Orleans Pelicans, before being traded to the Spurs in February 2023. 

San Antonio will have close to $20 million in cap space following the trade.

Meanwhile, the Hornets are landing a draft pick out of the deal, and reportedly sending the Spurs little beyond “cash considerations” in return.

Graham was suspended for two games to start the year after receiving a DWI last August. He became expendable after the Spurs decided to sign veteran point guard Chris Paul via free agency.

Paul spent last season with the Golden State Warriors. He had a “great visit” with Spurs coach Gregg Popovich and was sold on the culture and opportunity to help elevate the game of Victor Wembanyama,” wrote Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report/TNT. “CP is eager and motivated to showcase he’s still an elite guard in this league.”

Paul’s deal will be for one year and $11 million, per Wojnarowski.

The Warriors did look at trading his contract before waiving him, as relayed recently by Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
