Cavs Don’t Extend Qualifying Offer To Isaiah Mobley
David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Cavaliers have decided not to extend a qualifying offer to power forward Isaiah Mobley, making him an unrestricted free agent, per reports and Hoops Wire sources.

Mobley, 24, is 6-foot-8 and was selected by the Cavs with the No. 49 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft out of USC. He has appeared in a total of 22 NBA games over his two seasons, averaging 2.5 points and 1.4 rebounds.

The older brother of Cavaliers starter Evan Mobley, Isaiah Mobley signed a two-way contract each of the previous two summers. He did not this summer — and will not be a member of the Cavs’ summer league roster.

Basically, it seems there’s a good chance the Cavs are moving on, though Mobley very well could still be a member of the Canton Charge and work his way back to an NBA roster that way. For now, though, he can test the market.

“I know my time is coming,” Mobley said at the end of last season, via Jackson Flickinger of SB Nation. “I just try to keep getting better and be ready for my opportunities when they come. But yeah, I want it to be now or tomorrow. But you know, that’s out of my control. I don’t let it really bother me.”

With or without Isaiah Mobley, the Cavs could undoubtedly use help up front. They’re expected to cut ties with Tristan Thompson and Damian Jones, leaving Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley as their lone bigs.
