Frozen chicken products recalled over listeria concerns

(Gray News) – More than 2,000 lbs. of frozen ready-to-eat chicken is being recalled for possible listeria contamination.

According to the USDA, routine testing found the Al-Safa Halal chicken products could be contaminated with listeria.

There have been no reports of illness, but the USDA’s food safety and inspection service says the recalled chicken should not be eaten.

The products were produced in Canada and imported to retail stores across the United States in June.

The chicken products included in the recall contain the following information:

• 12.1-oz. cardboard box package containing “Al Safa Halal Charcoal Grilled Chicken Seekh Kebab Grilled, Minced, Chicken Patty Kebab” with “NOV 30 25” and “0605404” printed on a sticker on the outside of the package.
  
• 14.11-oz. cardboard box package containing “Al Safa Halal Fully Cooked Chicken Chapli Kebab Seasoned Chicken Patty” with “NOV 30 25” and “0605416” printed on a sticker on the outside of the package.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Eating food contaminated with listeria can cause a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns.
