COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A 16-year-old boy turned himself in to law enforcement Friday night in connection to a Columbia shooting that happened on the Fourth of July.

He turned himself in to authorities in Bibb County, Georgia, on Friday and is currently being extradited back to Columbia, according to a social media post from the Columbia Police Department.

The teenage boy will be charged with murder after one man was killed at the Woodland Terrace Apartments, on South Beltline Boulevard near Rosewood, on the Fourth of July.

The shooting happened at around 3 p.m. after police said there was an argument between “acquaintances.”

Columbia police said the 16-year-old boy is also facing charges of possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of a weapon by a person under 18.

He will be housed at the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Detention Center.

The shooting at Woodland Terrace Apartments was the sixth homicide within city limits in 2024.
