COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) -Residents at a Columbia senior living facility began moving back into their apartments on the Fourth of July after the building had been without air conditioning for days.

According to property management, the system that cools Christopher Towers, a high-rise on Devine Street, failed on Monday.

Officials with Multifamily Select Inc., the management company, announced on Independence Day that a mobile chiller they ordered from an outside vendor was connected Wednesday evening.

The building has begun to cool down, officials said.

As many as 95 of the building’s nearly 250 tenants had been staying in nearby hotels to cool down for the last few days.

The hotels were paid for by Multifamily Select Inc., and the process was facilitated by Sejwad Hospitality.

According to Matthew Neely, Vice President of Multifamily Select Inc., several tenants have moved back into their homes.
