FORT JACKSON, S.C. (WIS) - Thousands of people are expected to flood Hilton Field on Thursday, July 4, as they celebrate Fort Jackson’s Fourth of July Celebration.

“It’s a great way for the people of Columbia to get to know their Army,” Fort Jackson’s Chief of Plans and Operations, Jason Piere, said, “To come onto Fort Jackson and talk to the drill sergeants, officers, and NCO’s that run basic training, to understand what they do and how they create the future Army right here in Columbia.”

People will be allowed onto Hilton Field starting at 4 p.m. The event is free to the public.

Fort Jackson’s Marketing Director, Ana Gonzalez, says there will be lots of food, beer, and truck concessions, to go along with amusement rides on Hilton Field.

The slate of music will begin soon after, starting with Jazz Trinity at 6:05 p.m., followed by Hijacked and the Reggie Sullivan Band. The Fourth of July festivities will then conclude with a 25-minute fireworks show that will kick off at 9 p.m.

“This is the only life I know, and I look forward to this every year,” Gonzalez said, “I can remember in high school sitting on the football field watching the fireworks with my friends, so this does have a huge impact for my family and now to be able to give it back to the local community makes it even more special.”

Piere says for people that want to watch the fireworks show on Post, they can enter on the roads through Gate Four on Boyden Arbor Road. He says people can follow the blue line that’s painted on the right side of the road all the way to Hilton Field.

Jason Piere suggests that if you’re looking for a prime viewing spot, the best bet is to arrive earlier rather than later.

“For the show tomorrow is Gate 4, so if you’re on Interstate-77, that will be Exit 15,” Piere said, “Come in Fort Jackson, through the woods, just follow the blue line on the right side of the road, all the way to Hilton Field.”

To enter Post, you need a valid driver license, registration, and insurance.

There are some items that are prohibited on Post, including weapons of any kind, tents, and in outside food, drink, or alcohol. No pets are allowed unless they are a service animal.

All the regulations and other details can be found online.
