COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Two people were shot at apartment complexes in Columbia on Fourth of July.

One man who was shot at around 3 p.m. at the Woodland Terrace Apartments, on South Beltline Boulevard near Rosewood, died after being taken to a local hospital, the Columbia police said.

The shooting at Woodland Terrace Apartments was the sixth homicide within city limits in 2024.

“We are tracking to see where the crime occurred,” he said. “We’ve isolated it to one building.”

Officers were unsure at this time if the shooting happened inside or outside the apartment complex, said Columbia Police Chief Deputy Melron Kelly.

“We’re knocking on doors and trying to get any witnesses on scene,” he said.

Kelly added no arrests have been made as of now.

A second shooting took place at the Garners Crossing Apartments at 7651 Garners Ferry Road, which is less than a 10 minute drive away from the Woodland Terrace Apartments.

That shooting happened around 8 p.m., police said.

One person has been detained in connection to the Garners Crossing Apartments shooting, the Columbia Police Department posted on social media.
