COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The Department of Justice (DOJ) said a Winnsboro man was sentenced to federal prison after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a felon.

Officials said Juawn Robertson, 39, was arrested on May 30 after an officer with the Cayce Department of Public Safety tried to pull his car over. Robertson did not stop for the officer and eventually drove into the parking lot of a local restaurant, the department said.

DOJ stated Robertson tried to run away on foot, tossing a bag during his attempted escape. Officers were able to catch Robertson and recover the bag he threw, finding it contained a loaded firearm.

Officials said Robertson had prior convictions for possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, distribution of crack cocaine, and assault and battery in the second degree.

U.S. District Judge Sherri Lydon sentenced Robertson to three years and four months in prison, followed by a three-year term of court-ordered supervision.
