18-year-old charged in connection with deadly pedestrian crash

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - An 18-year-old woman was charged in connection with a crash that killed a pedestrian in June, according to the Columbia Police Department (CPD).

Madeline C. Kuester was charged with reckless homicide after turning herself in on Monday.

The crash happened at approximately 11 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, at the 1900 block of Rosewood Drive.

Police said Kuester allegedly drove 88 miles per hour along a road with a posted speed limit of 35 miles per hour and struck a pedestrian. CPD said the victim traveled 250 feet after being hit by the car.

Richland County Coroner’s Office identified the pedestrian as 47-year-old Charlton E. Ard. Deputies said Ard traveled 250 feet after being hit and died on the scene.
