CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Former Colorado guard KJ Simpson was in New York City for the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft.

He didn’t hear his name called until the Hornets took him 42nd overall — in the second round, the next day.

The wait certainly didn’t stop him from feeling all the emotions of a dream come true.

“I knew I was going to cry,” Simpson said. “So going up I was just like ‘let’s not make this an ugly cry,’ because I’m an ugly crier. Looking back, I did a good job.”

WBTV’s Cam Gaskins went 1-on-1 with one of the newest Hornets as Simpson prepares for the summer league and preseason camp to work for a spot on Charlotte’s roster.
