COLUMBIA, S.C. — Winners have been declared in runoff elections across South Carolina.

These are for races in which no candidate received a majority of votes during the primaries, ranging from local races like sheriffs and county council to seats representing South Carolinians on Capitol Hill and at the State House.

That is especially the case throughout much of South Carolina, where the vast majority of legislative districts lean heavily toward one party or the other, making them uncompetitive in a general election.

One of the most closely watched races in the Midlands, the race for S.C. Senate District 23, ended when Sen. Shealy conceded after a 12 year run in the senate.

The South Carolina Election Commission said runoffs are usually low-turnout races, with most garnering single-digit turnout among eligible voters.

Richland County Councilman Overture Walker beat Rep. Ivory Thigpen in the runoff race for S.C. Senate District 22 with a margin of less than 10%.

Other notable races that were called early Tuesday night was the race for the Democrat to represent Orangeburg County Coroner. Sean Fogle won his race after his opponent, Montez Haynes, challenged his residency before the state party.

Below are the early results for each race. A check is placed by the name of a candidate once the race is called.
