MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - New footage obtained by WMBF News shows the moments that led to a former South Carolina deputy’s DUI arrest in Horry County.

Authorities arrested 24-year-old Patrick Roscoe on May 28 and charged him with driving under the influence and having an open container of beer/wine in a vehicle.

Roscoe was fired from his role with the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office after his arrest.

Officers with the Horry County Police Department were called after reports of a Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office vehicle was seen speeding in the triple digits down Highway 501. Police caught up to Roscoe and stopped him near the campus of Horry-Georgetown Technical College.

Through a Freedom of Information Act request, WMBF News received footage from the South Carolina Highway Patrol showing the moments a trooper arrived at the scene. The trooper was told Roscoe was supposed to be working and had instead taken the vehicle unauthorized.

The trooper is told by another office in the video that Roscoe was involved in a single-vehicle wreck in Marlboro County and was linked to reports of reckless driving. Roscoe also reportedly “blew through” an accident scene and nearly hit officers. Roscoe also had a firearm inside the vehicle along with an open container and had already admitted to drinking.

In speaking with police, Roscoe explained he was going to see his fiancé, who lived nearby and claimed that he paid for her apartment “and everything else.” He also said he had “about three beers” earlier in the afternoon, but a trooper noted he could smell alcohol on him.

The footage later shows Roscoe failing a field sobriety test and eventually being taken into custody. Documents state Roscoe refused a breathalyzer test and that authorities would have to take him to a hospital for a blood sample, despite reportedly also saying that “they would have to fight him for it.”

Chesterfield County Sheriff Cambo Streater confirmed in a news release that Roscoe was a deputy at the agency. Streater said he does not “condone these actions from his deputies,” and holds his deputies to a higher standard.

Roscoe was booked at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center after his arrest. He was released the following day on a $1,249 bond.
