COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Both Democratic and Republican races for SC Senate District 35 are set for a runoff as neither leading candidate received a majority vote.

Republican Mike Jones, while leading comfortably, sits at exactly 50% of the vote. State law requires a 50%+1 voting percentage to be declared winner.

Lindsay Agostini is second in the Republican race with 30% of the vote. Due to SC rules, Agostini will be facing Jones in the primary runoff.

Allard and Chivers, who aren’t eligible for the June 25 runoff election, shared 17% and 4% of the vote respectively.

Leading Democrat Jeffery Graham finished initial voting with 47% of the vote, prompting a runoff between candidate Austin Floyd (38%).

Mike Jones, Christina Allard, Lindsay Agostini, and Richard “Jerry” Chivers are the four Republicans looking to occupy the seat.

The seat became a wide-open race after State Senator Thomas McElveen announced he was not running for reelection this March. The district represents Kershaw, Lee, Northeast Richland, and Sumter Counties.
