ST. MATTHEWS, S.C. (WIS) - Early election results showed that Jerry Govan secured the most votes in the Democratic Primary for S.C. House District 93.

Govan won’t necessarily be the one running in the general election November for Rep. Russell Ott’s seat.

Since no one candidate secured more than 50% of the vote, preliminary results show the election is headed to a runoff.

Russell Ott’s father Democrat Harry L. Ott had represented the 93rd district from 1998 through June 30, 2013. He resigned to to take a job with the Farm Service Agency. Russell Ott was appointed to serve out the remainder of his term, and held onto his seat until deciding to run against Sen. Dick Harpootlian for former Sen. Nikki G. Setzler, who is not running for re-election.

Four Democrats competed against one another in the election. Since the seat has been held onto by Democrats since the 90s, the June 11 primary for Democratic voters is where the battle takes place.

The four candidates were Johnny Felder, Phillip J. Ford, Jerry Govan and Chris Roland.

The unofficial results showed Govan had 46% of the vote, Felder had 32% of the vote, Ford had 11% of the vote and Roland had 11% of the vote.

The top-two vote getters will face off in another election on June 25.

Govan or Felder will face Republican Krista Hassell and Harold Geddings from the Workers Party in the general election this November.
