COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Filmed in Clarendon County, the newly released film, “Bull Street” is based on Columbia’s Bull Street and the history of the former mental hospital with a shaky past that once sat on the street.

The movie follows 39-year-old Lou Ester, a personal injury lawyer whose mother died at birth, forcing her to be raised in a family home by her grandmother Mrs. Big Gal, played by award-winning actress Loretta Devine.

However, trouble begins brewing when the granddaughter’s estranged father’s family tries to take the family home, uncovering issues of mental illness, generational wealth and racism in southern legal systems.

In this episode, Billie Jean Shaw talks to the writers and actresses of “Bull Street.”

Lynn Dow, writer and director of “Bull Street” created this film as a eulogy to her grandmother who is portrayed as “Big Gal” in the film.
