NORMANDY, FRANCE (WMBF) - A Grand Strand band is honoring World War II heroes during the 80th anniversary of D-Day by traveling to perform in Normandy.

The Festive Brass of Myrtle Beach will perform three concerts during their weeklong trip to commemorate the sacrifices of the brave men and women who fought for freedom on the beaches of Normandy.

The president of the Festive Brass, Jason Coker, expressed his gratitude to be able to honor the D-Day heroes and be a part of history.

“Having the opportunity to be present in Normandy to pay tribute to the more than 29,000 fallen Americans and perform for their families aligns with our mission to honor their legacy and serve our veterans through music. This invitation is a great honor for us, and we look forward to being a part of this historic event,” Coker said.

The first concert was held Thursday, D-Day, at Port en Bessin. The band will perform the second of the three concerts in Trevieres for a Liberation Day celebration on Friday and they’ll wrap up their trip with a June 10 performance in Luxembourg Gardens in Paris, France.

The band will also participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Normandy American Cemetery. The cemetery sits on a bluff overlooking the bitterly contested Omaha Beach.
