CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Former Hornets forward PJ Washington is headed to the NBA Finals with the Dallas Mavericks after being traded mid-season.

Washington, 25, was drafted by Charlotte in 2019 and spent his entire career with the Hornets, averaging 13 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists over 304 games.

At the 2024 trade deadline, however, he was swapped for Seth Curry, Grant Williams, and a 2027 first-round pick.

Washington now starts for the Finals-bound Mavericks and plays a vital role, averaging 13.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in his 17 playoff games this season.

After Dallas defeated the Timberwolves to advance to the NBA Finals, Washington took to Instagram Live.

That’s when Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro commented, “How you go from Charlotte to the Finals? You really made it out the mud with this one.”

Washington responded, “‘How you from Charlotte to the Finals?’ Tell ‘em again! ‘How you go from Charlotte to the Finals?’”
