SC National Guardsman who went missing in Laurens County lake is from Hopkins

Recovery efforts are ongoing in the search for Porsha Griffin, who went missing on Lake Greenwood last Saturday

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The South Carolina Army National Guardsman who went missing in a Laurens County lake is from Hopkins, according to the organization.

Staff Sgt. Porsha D. Griffin, 30, went tubing in Lake Greenwood on Saturday and didn’t resurface, WIS’ sister station WHNS reported.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) confirmed to WHNS officers, investigators and divers are still on the scene using resources that include sonar and side scans in a specific area based off of witness information.

Griffin is a part of the 116th Tactical Installation Networking Enhanced Company, 228th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade in Spartanburg.

Her commander, Col. Linda Riedel, released a statement that read in part:

“Of course, we are saddened beyond words, and we’ll continue to pray the search for her yields answers for all who care about her, as well as for peace for her daughter and extended family.”
