LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) -The mother of a woman who went tubing in Lake Greenwood and never resurfaced is speaking out as officials continue to search the waters.

Amicka Griffin talks about her initial reaction after receiving a phone call that her daughter was missing in Lake Greenwood.

“When I got the phone call I was hysterically shocked,”said Amicka Griffin. “I immediately came to the area...that they are searching for her. It’s been a lot, it’s been a whole lot to take in.”

She goes on to say her daughter, 30-year-old Staff Sergeant Porsha Griffin, is her oldest child.

Staff Sgt. Griffin went tubing with three other people on Saturday, May 25. According to officials, the three people were safe, but one was still missing. Officials have been searching Lake Greenwood going on three days, and Amicka Griffin said she has come to terms with what that means.

“I’ve accepted it because God, of course got me, He got me. He got me covered. I am not going to question His power,” said Amicka Griffin, but at the same time I just want to say that she was a loving daughter. She was loving mother. She was dependable. She was her own. She didn’t depend on anyone. She was a dependable person of her own. And she was that supportive person could call on for anything and always wanted everyone to be as one not divided all to be as one.”

The family says Griffin is a member of the South Carolina National Guard and just received her nursing degree in December 2023.

She is also the mother of a 9-year-old daughter.
