Donald Trump attends Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway
The former president will be in attendance for NASCAR’s most patriotic weekend.
CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV) - Former President Donald Trump attended the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday.
Sunday’s race was not the first crown jewel NASCAR race that the former president attended. In 2020, Trump’s motorcade led a handful of pace laps prior to the start of the Daytona 500.
Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell, driver of the No. 20 car, was in the lead when the caution for rain and subsequent red flag came out. After nearly two hours of waiting for the weather to pass and attempts to dry the track, NASCAR called the race, making Bell the winner.

Trump’s visit to North Carolina, a battleground state, comes months before what figures to be another hotly contested election between himself and current President Joe Biden. According to a Marist poll conducted in March, Trump held a slight lead over Biden in the Tar Heel State.
His expected trip to the racetrack also comes as he remains in and out of courtrooms as his legal battles continue.
In between court appearances, Trump has remained on the campaign trail. He was most recently in Charlotte on April 20, when he came for a fundraiser. Now, a month later, he is returning to the Charlotte area for NASCAR’s longest race of the season.
The Coca-Cola 600 has long since paid tribute to the U.S. military and those who have lost their lives. From pre-race festivities to special paint schemes to fallen servicemembers’ names on drivers’ cars, it is a weekend known for its patriotism.
