COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - High school seniors from across the Palmetto State have been chosen as recipients for the annual South Carolina State Fair’s Ride of Your Life Scholarship program.

“We’re thrilled to announce this year’s scholarship recipients and to invest in these students’ futures,” said South Carolina State Fair general manager, Nancy Smith. “Our scholarship program is at the heart of what we do here at the South Carolina State Fair, and supporting future scholars from our state means a great deal to our organization.”

Officials announced a total of 53 seniors have been chosen to receive $10,000 scholarships, 13 of whom are from the Midlands. They are:

  • Emory Peay from W.J. Keenan High School
  • Jackston Nance from Orangeburg High School for Health Professions
  • Gabrielle Jourdain from Calhoun Academy
  • Charles Boyd from Ridgeview High School
  • Stella Miller from Camden High School
  • Tyus Armstrong from Fairfield Central High School
  • Brennen Banks from Mid Carolina High School
  • Drayden Young from Blythewood High School
  • Joshua Wilder from Lexington High School
  • Jayne Ricard from Pelion High School
  • Countess Hodges from Richland Northeast High School
  • Caroline Easterling from Ben Lippen School
  • Tristan Berzins from Cardinal Newman High School

The fair awarded three additional scholarships after a $34,000 donation from Circle K and EMC Tickets, increasing the total of recipients from 50 to 53.

Applicants were asked to write an essay asking them to respond to a question: “If you could have a theme song, what would it be and why?”

Officials said the scholarship recipients must use the funds at a South Carolina university, college, or institution, retain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and enroll in no less than 30 credit hours each academic year to receive funding for that year.
