SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCSC) - A Summerville High School assistant principal was arrested Monday after he was accused of shoving a student repeatedly into the wall.

John Speer, 55, is charged with third-degree assault and battery, jail records show.

A Summerville Police Department report states Speer was walking a student to in-school suspension on March 19 and pushed the student.

The student told Speer to stop touching him and was recording him when Speer “lost his temper” and tried to grab the phone, the report states.

Speer then pushed the student into the wall causing the student to hit their head and busted the student’s hand, the report states.

The student said Speer continued to wrestle with them before stomping on their cell phone.

The report states that Speer told the student to “stop whining” and left marks and a bruise on the student’s wrist.

Speer was given a $1,087 personal recognizance bond.
