COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Lexington One has a unique approach to a transition they say will aid the district in its upcoming five-year strategic plan.

Instead of one superintendent filling the position of the person before them, Lexington One will have two superintendents for one full year.

Keith Price is currently the superintendent of the Georgetown County School District, and will start his position with Lexington One on July 1.

The current Superintendent Gerrita Postlewait will work alongside Price from July 1, 2024 through 2025. After the year, Price will become the full-time superintendent and will sign a four-year contract. School district leaders said because Postlewait will be stepping down they felt it was necessary for the new superintendent-elect to carry out their five-year strategic plan thoroughly and from the start.

“We will work together collaboratively, sort of dividing the work next year,” said Postlewait. “Mr. Price will be primarily in charge of the strategic plan and I will work more on the fundamental business plan of the district.”

According to school district leaders, this five-year strategic plan touches on several goals. Some of the goals include a plan for 95% of their graduates to be college, career, or military-ready, and an increase of middle and elementary school students scoring at or above grade level. Postlewait spoke highly of Price, saying they’ve worked together in the past, and leaving the district in the hands of the most qualified candidate eases her departure.

Postlewait said, “Mr. Price is one of the best-known superintendents in the state; he is widely experienced. He worked previously in the Midlands in Richland Two under Dr. Heffner and Dr. Ham, so he’s had excellent training, he’s done a terrific job. I’m looking forward to working with him and the future of Lexington One.”

WIS News 10 spoke with Price who shared his experience in the education world. Price worked in Richland Two for 24 years as an educator, administrator and principal. Price has four daughters and said he wears his girl dad pin proudly. He told WIS News 10 the mission statement he has adhered to since he first started: developing the whole child both academically and through social and emotional experiences.

“My personal vision and mission statement is to make sure that every student is prepared for success in their next step, regardless of their chosen pathway,” Price said. “It is a highly successful school district with a very strong and positive reputation-- one that this new superintendent-elect and superintendent are very proud and blessed to be part of, and I’m looking to come on board to engage with all of our stakeholders to make it the best it can possibly be.”
