Columbia Fireflies kick off 2024 home season by taking on Myrtle Beach Pelicans

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Opening day is here for the Columbia Fireflies baseball team as they prepare to take on the Myrtle Beach Pelicans!

If you want to head out -- First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Segra Park, which is located at 1640 Freed Drive in the Bull Street District of Columbia.

For Tuesday’s game, the Fireflies are hosting their $2 Miller Lite Tuesday with popcorn, drinks, hot dogs and 12 ounce cans of Miller Lite available for $2.

WIS News 10 will broadcast a schedule of 12 Fireflies home games for the 2024 minor league baseball season, the first of which will be Saturday, April 13. The Fireflies are also adopting an alternate food identity, the Carolina Grits, for six games this year as a way to honor the Southern staple.

The ballpark will be serving loaded grits and grilled-cheese bun hamburgers as new ballpark menu items to celebrate.

It’s shaping up to be a good season with 13 returners to the Fireflies roster, including shortshop Daniel Vazquez, who is 26 hits shy of setting the all-time franchise hit record.

Tuesday is also the first in a series of theme nights for the Fireflies’ week against the Pelicans including: a dog theme, a NASCAR theme, a Taylor Swift theme, a princess theme and a sensory safe evening.
