Clemson earns at-large bid, returns to NCAA Tournament

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Clemson University men’s basketball earned an at-large bid into the 2024 NCAA Tournament as a No. 6 seed and will face the No. 11 seed New Mexico in the first round of the tournament.

The first-round West Region matchup will be on Friday, March 22 at FedExForum in Memphis, Tenn. The winner will advance to the second round to play the winner of No. 3 Baylor and No. 14 Colgate on Sunday.

This is Clemson’s first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2021 and their 14th appearance ever. Their fourth under head coach Brad Brownell.

Clemson enters the first-round game with a 21-11 record, including an 11-9 ACC regular season record.

The Tigers enter the NCAA Tournament ranked 36 in the NET, earning the at large bid after a strong non-conference schedule to start the season including four straight wins to open the season. The Tigers are tied for second among ACC team with five Quad 1 wins. Clemson’s RPI strength of schedule is No. 13 this year, compared to last year’s 302.

The team’s 11-9 record in the ACC regular season is tied for fifth in the league.

The Tigers are set for life on the road in the NCAA Tournament after earning five ACC road wins this year, tying the school record for a season. The Tigers were 5-2 on the road in the ACC in 1986-87, Horace Grant’s senior year, and had five league road wins last year when Clemson was 5-5. This years team has also logged two wins over NET top ten teams. Beating Alabama and North Carolina.
