(InvestigateTV) — Former United States Air Force pilot Sarah Weede is on a new mission: honoring her fellow former servicewomen.

Through a photography tribute project, Weede said she is trying to recognize the service of female veterans — service she said can sometimes be overlooked.

“The whole purpose of this photo shoot was just to kind of let people know, ‘Hey, there are female veterans in the community,’” she said. “We raised our right hand just like our brothers did, and we’re here, you know. We’re not looking for praise or accolades, nothing like that. We just want people to know that we’re here.”

According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, more than 2 million female veterans are living in the U.S. today.
