Methodology
We rated the largest internet providers in the U.S. for 2024. Each provider was rated on a scale of 1 to 5 based on over a dozen factors, including speed, cost, availability, fees, customer satisfaction, connection type and more. We also used data from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to compare the average speed offered by internet companies in the U.S. to set a baseline for what is considered a good internet speed. Additionally, we analyzed data from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) to understand how each internet service provider (ISP) fares in customer service and perceived value.
How to choose the right internet provider in Atlanta
When choosing an internet service provider in Atlanta, first determine what options are available at your location. You can enter your address on the screen to find internet deals in your area.
Next, think about your budget and internet use to figure out the best connection for you. If your budget for internet is less than $50/mo., cable or fixed wireless internet will be within your price range and provide fast internet with Wi-Fi. These plans typically have download speeds from 75 to 400 Mbps, but the upload rate will be a fraction of that speed. Therefore, these plans are good for gaming, streaming and all other general online use but may have some limitations or lag when uploading large files or first-person real-time gaming.
Fiber plans typically cost a little more, around $55 to $70/mo. depending on the provider, and have speeds of 300 Mbps and up. With a fiber connection, you will experience a more reliable and direct connection that is not shared, resulting in better outcomes when uploading files or photos or competitive gaming. Simultaneously connecting multiple Wi-Fi devices will also fare better on a fiber connection since the speeds are not affected by network congestion.

Xfinity – Cheapest starting price

Xfinity plans start at just $9.95/mo., which is one-fifth of the starting price of most other providers in the area. Other popular Xfinity plans include 100 Mbps starting at $29.95/mo. or 1,200 Mbps starting at $80/mo. Xfinity plans typically have a $15/mo. equipment fee, or you can provide your own equipment.

AT&T – Most available fiber service
AT&T covers over two-thirds of Atlanta, making it one of the most accessible fiber networks in the city. However, some AT&T connections still rely on copper lines and have speeds up to 100 Mbps. AT&T Fiber’s advantages include no data limits, no additional fees for the modem or router and consistent pricing with no scheduled rate increases after 12 months. AT&T offers one of the fastest available plans in the Atlanta region at up to 4,700 Mbps, but even the basic 300 Mbps plan at $55/mo. can support the average household’s Wi-Fi needs.
Overall score: 4.1 out of 5.

T-Mobile 5G Home – Most available 5G service
T-Mobile offers one unlimited standalone internet plan for $60/mo. You can bundle with a T-Mobile cellular plan to save up to $20 monthly. T-Mobile 5G Home Internet doesn’t charge extra for equipment or activation, and the provider performs well when it comes to customer satisfaction. T-Mobile is a fixed wireless network that uses local cell towers to relay the internet signal. The one drawback is that internet speeds only go up to 245 Mbps and can fluctuate if the local network is busy.

Verizon 5G – Fastest 5G service
Verizon 5G Home is $50/mo. for up to 300 Mbps and Verizon 5G Home Plus is $70/mo. for up to 1,000 Mbps. Either plan can be bundled with Verizon Mobile for a discounted rate. The setup for Verizon 5G is quick and easy: Verizon mails you the gateway, and you plug it into a wall outlet near a window. Plans have no contracts or extra equipment fees and come with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Overall score: 4 out of 5.

Google Fiber – Best for simple pricing
Google Fiber offers two no-contract plans in the Atlanta region: 1 GB for $70/mo. or 2 GB for $100/mo. While Google Fiber offers up to 8 GB in other coverage areas, those faster speeds are not currently available in Atlanta. Still, Google Fiber is known for good customer service and few hidden fees. Installation and equipment are free, and Google Fiber plans include unlimited data and one terabyte (TB) of free cloud storage.

---|---|---|---|
Google 2 GB | $100/mo. | 2,000 Mbps | Fiber |
AT&T 5 GB | $250/mo. | 4,700 Mbps | Fiber |
