The father of the Pulse nightclub shooter attended a Hillary Clinton rally in Kissimmee, Fla., on Monday.

Seddique Mateen's son, Omar Mateen, killed 49 people and injured dozens more during the massacre at the Orlando gay nightclub in June. The elder Mateen was spotted at the rally sitting behind Clinton and again at a rest stop later in the night, by a reporter from West Palm Beach’s WPTV.

"Clinton is good for United States versus Donald Trump,” Mateen told WPTV at a rest stop after the event. He also showed a sign he had made in support of the Democratic nominee.

When he was asked whether the Clinton campaign was aware he had been sitting right behind her — she gave a tribute to everyone affected by the shooting during her speech — he responded: "It's a Democratic party, so everybody can join."

An official from the Clinton campaign said they were not aware that Mateen was at the event — which was open to the public — until after it occurred.

Mateen also told WPTV that no one should be surprised to see him at the event so close to the site of the shooting because “I love the United States, and I've been living here a long time.”

Mateen also said he's been cooperating with the investigation into the shooting.
