Commissioner for Children Helen D’Amato said egg and sperm donation should not be permitted. A statement by Save The Embryo Protection Act-Malta published the position of the office of the Children’s Commissioner, wherein it is stated that present directives against the eugenic choice or the disposal or freezing of embryos should remain in force. It further adds that the present directive against fertilisation of more than two eggs in the same cycle of treatment should also remain in force, and likewise the directive against what it referred to as the system of a rented or loaned womb.
The Office of the Children’s Commissioner said these recommendations have been forwarded to the Bioethics Commission.
