Ever since mesh shoes became a thing, I have been obsessed. From the skin-baring style to the fact they're so lightweight to how they look on my feet, I just love everything about them. They remind me of those floral beaded mesh slippers everyone used to wear in the early 2000s (TBT). But before I treated myself to a more expensive pair, I really wanted to try on a reasonably-priced option and see whether they fared well. I am guilty of running my shoes into the ground, so if I spent that much money on something that I ruined instantly, I'd be beside myself. That's a reasonable excuse, right?
About two months ago, I saw one of T&C's fashion assistants wearing a pair of mesh Mary Janes from Jeffrey Campbell that I adored instantly. Upon doing my research, I not only learned that the shoes were affordable (they start at around $150 mark depending on the retailer) and are often always on sale at Nordstrom, but they come in a rainbow of colors. Red! Purple! Blue! Nude! Nude with floral embroidery! The list goes on.
I decided to go with a pastel mint shade, which were marked down to $72 at the time, and I am not lying when I write those were the best $72 I've spent in months. For that price, I'll admit, I wasn't expecting life-changing comfort, but they have certainly exceeded my expectations. The insoles are slightly plush and the leather straps that sit across the top of the feet are elastic, but not constricting. They're also uber-lightweight—the experience is similar to walking barefoot—and I love how the mesh uppers keep my feet cool in this 80+ degree weather. I've done a lot of walking in them and have dealt with zero blisters. Zilch. And I'm a big baby when it comes to that stuff.
Since making the purchase, I've received endless compliments. People have stopped me in the office, in the elevator, on the subway, even on an airplane, asking about the shoes. Trust me when I say, these Mary Janes are keepers and worth owning in every color. If you're still on the fence about the style, I couldn't recommend a better entry mesh flat.
