Much like the perfect white tee, having a reliable white tank top in your wardrobe is essential. For layering or even for classic simplicity, their uses are infinite. But not all white tank tops are made the same. I have however, after much trial and error, found one that is set apart from the rest. Enter: the Citizens of Humanity Isabel Rib tank.

Now this is a piece I have known to be worn by many an editor, in an if you know, you know, kind of way. And for good reason. It's not flimsy, which I appreciate, because it isn't sheer like some styles can be (I'd argue there's a time and place for that, but if you need one tank and you need it to work in a number of situations, sheer isn't going to cut it). The cotton, which is organic, and at this point that should be a pre-requisite, really does feel like different quality. When I wear it, my bra doesn't show through, nor does the fabric lay weirdly on the body. I'd actually go so far to say that it's almost compressive.

And that's another thing: it holds it shape. I like this style in particular because the high neckline and cutaway armholes are really flattering to the torso. The key though, is the armholes and neckline have not stretched out or started to warp with wear, which has happened with other styles I've owned in the past. And the cut hits at a really great place whether you wear high, mid or low rise jeans. That's the kind of styling versatility I need, because who wants to spend hours agonizing and fiddling to find the right look. Not me!

If I had to add a bonus element that I love, it's the fact that this tank hasn't lost its brightness or turned yellow with washing and over time. It really does feel and wear like a quality investment piece, certainly worth owning in a color or two. For me, at least, this tank is part of my foundational wardrobe going forward.
