The last of Henry VIII's wives, Katherine Parr, finally gets her due in Firebrand, a new historical drama starring Alicia Vikander as Parr and Jude Law as the King. "Henry was a player in a story about a great woman. He’s dominated the narrative of these six women for 500 years, and [Firebrand] was trying to steal back the narrative a little bit and have him be a supporting role to his wife’s story," Law says.

The film is based on Queen’s Gambit by Elizabeth Fremantle (the name was changed so as to not confuse viewers with The Queen's Gambit Netflix series about chess). Per the book's description, "Widowed for the second time at age thirty-one, Katherine Parr falls deeply for the dashing courtier Thomas Seymour and hopes at last to marry for love. Instead, she attracts the amorous attentions of the ailing, egotistical, and dangerously powerful Henry VIII. No one is in a position to refuse a royal proposal."

Director Karim Aïnouz said of Firebrand, "I could not be more excited to be bringing ‘Firebrand’ to the screen and telling the story of Katherine Parr — a ferociously brilliant, enlightened, and emancipated woman who I am deeply inspired by — a woman who has been largely disregarded, or certainly under-represented, in English history. Much is known about Henry VIII’s tyrannical reign; indeed, much is known about the King himself and about those who perished at his hands, but my focus here is on a woman who not only managed to survive him, but also to thrive and succeed on her own terms."
