The hair style and dress sense look familiar but the mode of transport is somewhat unusual for a prince entering Windsor Castle.

A short video widely shared on social media appears to show the Prince of Wales using an electric scooter on the grounds of the castle.

William, like his father, is well known for his firm views on the importance of protecting the environment and tackling climate change.

He and the Princess of Wales live with their children at Adelaide Cottage which is located around a mile away from the King’s residence at the castle.

The video shows the prince, dressed in smart casual clothing and trainers, slowing down before taking a left hand turn and proceeding through a gate.

The caption accompanying the clip reads: “Happy 4th of July from Prince William on a scooter”.

William’s purchase of a scooter was reported by The Sun last year. A source told them: “It’s a two or three-mile round trip from his family home at Adelaide Cottage to Windsor Castle so it’s easier by scooter than car or walking.”

The private area of the Windsor estate is 655 acres and, besides the castle and Adelaide Cottage, also includes Frogmore Cottage which was once the home of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The model of the scooter is not known.

Kensington Palace was contacted for comment.

William said last November that future generations would look upon this decade as when people took collective action to save the planet.

Speaking at the awards ceremony for the Earthshot Prize, which recognises those providing solutions to environmental problems and climate change, he said the finalists “remind us that no matter where you are on our planet, the spirit of ingenuity, and the ability to inspire change, surrounds us all”.

The prince added that he believed future generations would “look back on this decade as the point at which we globally took collective action for our planet”.

He continued: “The moment we refused to accept the voices of denial and defeatism, and instead became the architects of change towards a healthy and sustainable world.

“We owe it to the generations that will follow us to work together both for their future, and for the future of our planet.

“It is my belief that we will find the courage to do so. We will find the courage because we will hold on to the most powerful motivators of all — optimism and hope.”
