Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is an island nation in south Asia which lies east of India’s southern tip. Its population of 22 million is formed mainly of native Sinhalese people. The country’s documented history goes back 3,000 years with Buddhist writings dating from 29BC. Britain colonised the nation, formerly known as Ceylon, from 1815 to 1948 when it gained independence. Today Sri Lanka is suffering from an ongoing economic crisis which has resulted in the collapse of its currency, rising inflation and a humanitarian emergency.
