Rishi Sunak

Rishi Sunak is prime minister and a former chancellor of the exchequer. Born in 1980, Sunak went to Winchester College before reading philosophy, politics and economics at Lincoln College, Oxford. He received an MBA from Stanford University in California in 2006. His political career began in 2014 when he was selected as the Conservative candidate for Richmond, North Yorkshire. As chancellor Sunak oversaw financial support during the coronavirus pandemic, including the furlough and Eat Out to Help Out schemes. In July 2022 he resigned as part of a ministerial rebellion against Boris Johnson. He ran to replace Johnson in the aftermath, but lost in the final round of the leadership election to Liz Truss. After Truss’s resignation in October 2022, he succeeded her as prime minister.
