Pakistan

The Islamic Republic of Pakistan is a south Asian country with a population of 264 million people making it the fifth largest population in the world. It was home to several ancient civilisations including the Indus Valley people of the Bronze Age. The country was governed under the British Raj from 1858 until it became independent in the 1947 partition of India. Pakistan currently has one of the largest Muslim populations in the world and its capital is Islamabad, while Karachi is its largest city and financial centre. It has the sixth-largest standing armed forces and possesses nuclear weapons.
