Nicola Sturgeon

Nicola Sturgeon was the first minister of Scotland and the leader of the Scottish National Party from 2014 to 2023. She entered the Scottish parliament in 1999 and later saw a landslide victory in the 2015 general election when the SNP gained almost all of the seats in Scotland. Sturgeon resigned amid a police investigation into alleged party fundraising fraud and was arrested for questioning and released without charge. She was criticised in 2024 after it was revealed she deleted her WhatsApp messages during the pandemic despite agreeing to provide them to the Covid-19 inquiry.
