Kwasi Kwarteng

Kwasi Kwarteng is a former chancellor of the exchequer and secretary of state for business, energy and industrial strategy. He has been a Conservative MP since 2010 and serves the Spelthorne constituency in Surrey. Kwarteng studied history and classics at Trinity College, Cambridge, and received a PhD in economic history from Cambridge at the turn of the millennium. Kwarteng made headlines when he was appointed chancellor in Liz Truss’s 2022 cabinet reshuffle, but became the second shortest-serving chancellor, serving for 38 days, after the pound dropped to its lowest point against the US dollar following his mini-budget.
