Keir Starmer

Sir Keir Starmer is the leader of the Labour Party. Prior to entering politics Starmer read law at the University of Leeds and civil law at the University of Oxford. His work in the legal field between 1987 and 2013 led to his appointment as a QC, director of public prosecutions and head of the Crown Prosecution Service, as well as Knight Commander of the Order of Bath. Starmer, who falls on the soft left of the Labour Party, was first elected to the House of Commons in 2015, later becoming shadow minister for immigration and shadow secretary for exiting the European Union under Jeremy Corbyn. He was elected to succeed Corbyn as Labour leader in April 2020. Starmer is married to Victoria Alexander, an NHS worker specialising in occupational health, with whom he has a son and daughter.
