Iran

The Islamic Republic of Iran is a country in western Asia with a population of approximately 86.7 million people. It is home to one of the world’s oldest civilisations, dating back to the fourth millennium BC with the formation of the Elamite kingdoms. The Islamic Republic was established after the 1979 revolution. The country is led by an authoritarian, theocratic government headed by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. It is reported internationally as having a poor human rights record on the grounds of its abuse against civil liberties and human rights, including fixing elections, responding violently to protests and lacking adequate rights for women, children and homosexuals.
