Gaza

Gaza is a Palestinian territory located on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, bordered by Israel and Egypt. The Gaza Strip is about 141 sq m with Gaza City in the north and Khan Yunis and Rafah in the south. It is home to over 2 million Palestinians, making it one of the most densely populated regions in the world. Its current borders came into being as an armistice line after the 1948 Arab-Israeli war, when it was seized by Egypt. It hosted Palestinians who were displaced during the fighting and was later occupied by Israel in the 1967 Six-Day war. Israel withdrew from the territory in 2005 and Hamas seized control two years later. Fighting returned after Hamas carried out an attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, with the Israeli prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu vowing to destroy the militants and demilitarise the region.
